ABOUT
“Nobody has to fix us - we make a contract to witness and be witnessed, in order for the wound to knit itself shut again… Round and round we go, in a circle of witnessing and healing, in the sacred space we create by performance.” (L. Stiff Thesis, 2019)
Lucky Stiff (they/he) is a director, writer, and performer working in Chicago and New York. Their work in new play and musical development and nightclub culture-inspired performance art has been featured at MOCA Chicago, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Blue Man Group Chicago, Boy Friday Dance Company, and the McKittrick Hotel (home of Sleep No More) among many others. They hold an MFA in Directing for Theater from Northwestern University where they received a grant from the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts for their original site-specific production BELOW: An Underworld Story. In 2024 they were a Fellow in the Leon Levy Foundation Director’s Group in residence at Roundabout Theatre Company in New York City. For the last five years they’ve performed as the Ghost of Christmas Past in Goodman Theatre’s A Christmas Carol.
Currently: “David” in David Byrne and Mala Gaonkar’s immersive production Theater of the Mind.
